How a person can become demon possessed By John Chopores 1. By not having control
over his/her spirit. Cf. PRO 25:28 He that {hath} no rule over his own
spirit {is like} a city {that is} broken down, {and} without walls.
(KJV) 1CO 14:32 And the
spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. (KJV) COL 3:2 Set your
affection on things above, not on things on the earth. (KJV) MAT 5:8 Blessed {are}
the pure in heart: for they shall see God. (KJV) MAT 6:21 For where
your treasure is, there will your heart be also. (KJV) 3. By not keeping
his/her body in the will of God. Cf. 1CO 9:27 But I keep
under my body, and bring {it} into subjection: lest that by any means,
when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway. (KJV)
4. Not filling life with
the things of God. Cf. MAT 11:29 Take my yoke
upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find
rest unto your souls. (KJV) (Matthew 12:43-45 KJV) (43) When the unclean
spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and
findeth none. (44) Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I
came out; and when he is come, he findeth {it} empty, swept, and [2]
garnished. (45) Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more
wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last {state} of
that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked
generation. 5. Having Sin(s) not
taken care of. Sin (1Samuel 16:14-15 KJV) (14) But the Spirit of
the Lord departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord troubled him.
(15) And Saul's servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God
troubleth thee. (Judges 9:23-24 KJV) (23) Then God sent an
evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem
dealt treacherously with Abimelech: (24) That the cruelty {done} to the
threescore and ten sons of Jerubbaal might come, and their blood be laid upon
Abimelech their brother, which slew them; and upon the men of Shechem, which
aided him in the killing of his brethren. PRO 14:14 The backslider
in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man {shall be
satisfied} from himself. (KJV) 6. The worship of false
gods. Cf. 1CO 10:20 But {I say}, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice,
they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should
have fellowship with devils. (KJV) [The Greek word for "fellowship"
is "koinonos", it means; "a partner, associate, comrade,
companion". (17) They sacrificed
unto devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not, to new {gods that}
came newly up, whom your fathers feared not. (18) Of the rock {that} begat thee
thou art unmindful, and hast forgotten God that formed thee. (19) And when the
Lord saw {it}, he abhorred {them}, because of the provoking of his sons, and of
his daughters. (20) And he said, I will hide my face from them, I will
see what their end {shall be}: for they {are} a very froward generation,
children in whom {is} no faith. 7. Not having his/her
will, in line with the will of God! Cf. 1 John 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have in
him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 1 John 2:17 And the world passeth away, and the lust
thereof: but he that doeth the will of God [1]abideth for ever. [1]3306. meno, men'-o; a
prim. verb; to stay (in a given place, state, relation or expectancy):--abide,
continue, dwell, endure, be present, remain, stand, tarry (for), X thine own.
"To remain, abide, dwell, live." [CWSD. PAGE. 959.]. The Greek word is in the Present tense, so,
"keep abiding". 1 John 4:4 Ye are of
God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that
is in you, than he that is in the world. 8. Not having faith in
the true God! Cf. Deu 32:20 And he said,
I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end shall be: for they are
a very froward generation, children in whom is no faith. Mat 9:29 Then touched he their eyes, saying, According
to your faith be it unto you. Gal 6:7 Be
not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he
also reap. Heb 11:6 But without faith it
is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is,
and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. [1]4995 sophronismos {so-fron-is-mos'} from 4994; TDNT - 7:1104,1150; n m AV - sound mind 1; 1 1) an admonishing or calling to
soundness of mind, to moderation
and self-control 2) self-control, moderation
