Mt 1:18 ¶ Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. [The Holy Spirit is God the Spirit. God is Holy (Cf. Lev.11:44; and a spirit (Cf. Jn.4:24)].

Mt 1:20 But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.

Sometimes an angel will make contact with a human by means of a dream. One possible reason that the angel spoke with Joseph in a dream, could be because he (Joseph) was an older man. Cf. Ac 2:17 'And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams.

Word studies: vs.18 “came together” the Greek word (sunerchomai) used here means: ‘to cohabit”; in other words, before she ever had sex with anyone.

Vs.20. “appeared” from the Gk word “phaino” which means: “appear and/or shine”.

Mt 2:13 ¶ Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, "Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him."

Since Joseph obey what God had said to him through the angel of Chapter one: God uses the same method this time.

Mt 2:19 ¶ But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,

Joseph being a “man of God”, saw angels of God!

Matthew 4:24  Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them.

We do not see anyone turned away, of those who came to Jesus Christ for help!

The Greek word used here for “demon-possessed” is “daimonizomai”, it means: “to be under the power of a demon”.

Matthew 13:41  "The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness,

Jesus Christ has the power to “send” out angels. This would seem to say that Christ (God the Son) has His own angels, to send out!

This could be because Christ (God the Son) is part of the Trinity. Cf. Matthew 16:27  "For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works.

Matthew 24:36  "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.

There  are some things that even the angels do not know.

Matthew 26:53  "Or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels?

We see here, that God has a very large number of angels, and those angels do the Will of God! Cf. Matthew 6:10  Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.

Also, the angels are set-up with order!

Some of the things, which angels do:

1.      Separate the wicked from the just. Cf. Matthew 13:49  "So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come forth, separate the wicked from among the just,

2.      Gather and carry the people of God. Cf. Matthew 24:31  "And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
Luke
16:22  "So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried.

3.      Help bring forth the wrath of God. Cf. Revelation 15:7  Then one of the four living creatures gave to the seven angels seven golden bowls full of the wrath of God who lives forever and ever.

4.      Deliver messages from God, to human beings. Cf. Mt 1:20 But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.

Luke 1:19  And the angel answered and said to him, "I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and was sent to speak to you and bring you these glad tidings.

The Greek word for “Gabriel” is “gabrihl”, it means: "man of God". From this it seems that angels are like men in some ways.

Luke 1:26 ¶ Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth,

 One of the meanings for

Luke 2: 13  And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:

Angels can be very fast!

14  "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!"

One of the things that angels do is to give glory to God!

15  So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, "Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us."
We can see from these verses, that angels are sometimes called: “heavenly host”.

Sometimes God is called: “Lord of hosts”. Cf. 1 Samuel 4:4  So the people sent to Shiloh, that they might bring from there the ark of the covenant of the LORD of hosts, who dwells between the cherubim. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.

2 Samuel 7:26  "So let Your name be magnified forever, saying, `The LORD of hosts is the God over Israel.' And let the house of Your servant David be established before You.

Also, it is clear, that sometimes angels can be seen by men.

Acts 19:15  And the evil spirit answered and said, "Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?"

There is no room for pride when dealing with an evil spirit!

Acts 19:16  Then the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, overpowered them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

Here we see one man with a demon inside of him, overpowering many.  One demon, can be stronger than many men. That is one of the reasons that we need the Holy Spirit to help us when dealing with a demon! Cf. John 10:29  "My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand.

Hebrews 6:13  For when God made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself,

1 John 4:4 ¶ You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

Heb. 1: 6  But when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says: "Let all the angels of God worship Him."

Angels also worship. Cf. Luke 2: 13  And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:

14  "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!"

7  And of the angels He says: "Who makes His angels spirits And His ministers a flame of fire."

The phrase   “flame of fire” probably speaks of the power and spirit nature of angels.

Heb 2:5 ¶ For He has not put the world to come, of which we speak, in subjection to angels.

Men, not angels; are to rule the world to come!
